Poppies is one of the surviving stalwarts of the Bali dining scene from back in the day when only a palm fringed dirt track would constitute the main drag on Jl. Legian but how times have changed! For a nostalgic trip back in time to donderĀ eras then just pop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner at poppies and let the good times roll once again. Reservations recommended.
The sunken garden environment is a respite from the touristy feel of the narrow Poppies Lane outside. Hang out at the bar with a Poppies world famous carved coconut pina colada before indulging in an appealing dinner, choosing either Indonesian inspired cuisine or western fare.
The steaks here (the local beef used id virtually indistinguishable from imported grade meat) are always good, seafood fresh from Jimbaran market on plates large enough to satisfy even most ambitous of appetites.
Lounge around after dinner and soak up the real Kuta vibe in a Bali institution. Poppies does such a good job that streets have been named after it!

A perential star in the Nusa Dua sky, Faces is one of the most relaxing restaurants on the island owing to the soft lit ambience of the sunken tropical garden setting and the refreshingly uncomplicated cuisine from Chef Brandon Huisman. The open kitchen setting of the restaurant, terrazo stonewalled surroundings and gentle lap of the water features in the garden transport diners to new plateu of intimacy.
From the selection of appertisers the Bacon Wrapped Quail, Frisee Lettuce, Cherry omato and Roast Garlic Cream comes highly recommended as does the Lightly Breaded Crab Cake, Honey Mustard Beurre Blanc with apple and radish slaw. The Duck Confit with summer vegetable ragout from the main course selection is a standout. For sheer decadence the Butter-Poached Lobster with wild mushroom saute, creamy risotto and truffle essence shiuld be investigated, preferably with a cold glass of Chardonnay, whilst the Chocolate Fondant from the dessert menu is rich reward indeed. A complimentary pick up and drop off service is provided to outside guests staying in the Nusa Dua, Benoa and Jimbaran Bay areas, making dinner at Faces and drinks at Fluid two very attractive reasons to head south to a new level of luxurious indulgence.

Opened in the La Walon Center since 2003 but previously to be found in another two Kuta locations, this German-run restaurant in the heart of Legian never fails to draw in the crowds from the hustle and bustle of the scene outside.
Specializing in German and western food with a hint of Indonesian cuisine thrown in for good measure, Mama’s keeps on going when all around her wither and dry: in fact she’s so strong she keeps going twenty four hours a day with a license for alcoholic beverages and a full bar menu.
Mama’s is reknown for the 1,000g Pork Knuckle with Sauerkaut, Beef Rouladen and other such earthy Germanic delights as the Beef Goulash, Smoked Pork and of course a large selection of Germany’s second best export – quality sausages.
Try the Giant Curry Sausages for some spicy variety or the Jumbo Hot Dog for a tasty and very filling lunchtime snack. Homemade cakes are now being produced and good coffee served with Mama’s healthy breakfast menu. An all-round Legian favourite that caters well to families and children.

Kuta isn’t very well known for its culinary prowess. Amillion restaurant crownd the tiny interlocking lanes between Poppies Gang I and II, some good, most just the same menu repeated and nauseam for the benefit of the backpackers market.
Diners looking for something more than just a calorie intake then the one exception to the Kuta rule is Kori, a long standing establishment that takes its food seriously and succeeds, a fact that qualified by the restaurant remaining in business for the last ten years in a part of town where average life expectary of most eateries is somewhere around the six month mark. Try the Singaporean chili crab or giantmeaty spare ribs, two of the most frequenly ordered main courses by the Kori regulars. Hot stone cooking is another popular pull for dining punter. Take your pick of the Prime Beef Fillet, Pork Medallions or locally caught River Prawns and cook your own dinner on the table to just the way you like it.
The restaurant comfortably seats two hundred upstairs and downstairs in the bale and private gazebo areas but the best part of dining at Kori is that guests don’t have to brave the traffic out of Kuta to more upmarket dining establishments in Seminyak, quality cuisine can be found in the heart of Kuta.
