On an island that is being fast overrun by international gourmand standard restaurants and lavish eatries specializing in all manner of cuisine spanning the globe it is refreshing to find a quality establishment serving excellent Balinese fare. Alcedo at Gending Kedis does not stray into Asian Fusion territories or even temper the authentic flavours and ingredients of traditional Balinese dishes. What diner can expert is hearty Indonesian fare, large portions and traditional presentation with exemplary service. Literally translating to ‘The River Kingfisher’, diners to Alcedo can expert a very relaxing environment amongst the lush surrounds of the gorge Gending Kedis overlooks and the nature that inhabits the environment. Recommended is the Ayam Pelalah – shredded chicken breast with chilies and balinese lime, the Babi Kecap – braised pork loin in sweet soy chili sauce and sauteed glass noodles and the Ikan Bakar Sambal Matah – grilled snapper fillet in marinated shallots and lemongrass dressing served with plecing kangkung. Whilst the Balinese menu at Alcedo is both exciting and rewarding, guest with a taste for continental cuisine will not be disappointed with the choice of international dishes such as the popular Lamb Chops – grilled with creamy polenta, tamarind fig glaze and vegetables of the day. A dining experienceto be savored.

As with all things Aman in this world it is the allure of luxury that tempts, both in the elegant poolside setting and, naturally, the foodstuffs that find their way onto the end of your knife and fork.
Dinners guest here can load their plates with slices of cured proscuitto, silvers of exquisite salami and a formidable array of fungi, not to mention the requisite tomato and feta salad, a large bowl of mixed olives and an exceptionally tasty doorstop chuck of frittata.
Order the Gamberonni Freshwater Prawns here or contend with a revolving specials boardĀ featuring such gourment offering as a Wild Sumbawan Boar Bolognaise. As the menu rotates on an almost daily basis it’s hard to predict what the chef will have in store for his guests. One thing you can be sure of is the inclusion of the classic Tiramisu on dessert menu. This faultless sweet, with just the sublest hint of Marsala (a nutty espresso flavouring through the biscuit), velvety mascarpone and a heavy coating of cream on the top layer, has given many visiting diners to Amanusa a new culinary addiction to placate.
